Methodology

What we check before publishing

The same scorecard is applied to both operators. No commercial agreement changes a score.

  1. 01

    Licence on the public register

We confirm the licence holder, account number and licensed activities on the Gambling Commission register, and check that the brand’s domain is listed against that licence. A brand without an active licence is never published.

  2. 02

    Regulatory history

We read every regulatory action recorded against the licence holder — fines, warnings, settlements and added licence conditions — and report them in the review, not in the small print.

  3. 03

    Terms and conditions in full

We read the complete rules, paying attention to bonus wagering (capped at 10x in Great Britain), withdrawal fees, dormant accounts and how customer funds are protected.

  4. 04

    Safer gambling tools

We check deposit and loss limits, time-outs, reality checks and the operator’s participation in GAMSTOP, the national online self-exclusion scheme.

  5. 05

    Payments and verification

We compare deposit minimums, payment methods, withdrawal fees and payout windows, and how age and identity checks are handled before you can play.

  6. 06

    Quarterly re-review

Each review is revisited at least every three months, and immediately if the licence status or regulatory record changes on the public register.

Independence

How we keep the review honest

Nobody buys a score

No operator can pay for a rating, a position, or the removal of a criticism.

Links always flagged

Every affiliate link is marked as sponsored, both visually and technically.

Licensed operators only

We do not publish, or favourably mention, operators without an active Gambling Commission licence.

Sanctions disclosed

If the Gambling Commission has taken action against a licence holder, the review says so — with a link to the record.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

The essentials of licensed online gambling in Great Britain.

Is online gambling legal in the UK?

Yes. Online gambling is legal in Great Britain and regulated under the Gambling Act 2005. Any business offering gambling to consumers in Great Britain must hold an operating licence from the Gambling Commission, wherever in the world it is based. Northern Ireland has separate legislation.

What is the Gambling Commission?

The Gambling Commission is the statutory regulator for gambling in Great Britain. It issues operating licences, sets the Licence Conditions and Codes of Practice that operators must follow, takes enforcement action, and publishes a public register listing every licence holder, its licensed activities, its domains and any regulatory actions.

Who holds the Parimatch and Betmaze licences?

Both brands trade as white labels — they use another company’s British licence. Parimatch’s UK site, parimatch.co.uk, is listed under BV Gaming Limited (the BetVictor business), account no. 39576, licensed for casino, real-event and virtual-event betting, bingo and gambling software. Betmaze’s UK site, betmaze.co.uk, is listed under ProgressPlay Limited, account no. 39335, licensed for casino, real-event betting and bingo. We link to both register entries in each review.

How do I confirm a licence is valid myself?

Search the Gambling Commission public register for the brand, the domain name or the account number shown in the operator’s footer. Open the business entry to see the licensed activities and their status, then check the “Domain names” tab to confirm the site you are using is listed. The “Regulatory actions” tab shows any fines or sanctions.

How does self-exclusion work in the UK?

GAMSTOP is the free national self-exclusion scheme for online gambling. Once you register, every online operator licensed in Great Britain must block you for the period you choose — six months, one year or five years. You can also self-exclude directly with any individual operator.

What limits apply to online slots?

Since 2025, online slots in Great Britain have a maximum stake of £5 per spin for players aged 25 and over and £2 per spin for players aged 18 to 24. Slots must also run at no faster than 2.5 seconds per spin, with no autoplay, turbo or slam-stop features.
